Tristan reviewed for Midway USA the 45-70 bullet he uses in the hand load for the Marlin lever action rifle. We both killed our elk with it this year. I thought I would share it with you and let you know to be watching for many more reloading articles to come. “My wife and I each killed our elk with this bullet this year. Mine was a big 6 point at 80 yards. Hit it twice in the neck, the first one stopped him in his tracks, the second one put him on the ground for good. Both shots passed through. My wife shot a very large cow elk once in the vitals at 250 yards. That bullet was recovered just inside the hide on the opposite side of the animal. With my load I am 5″ high at 100 yards, dead on at 200 yards, and the bottom of the fine crosshair on the duplex reticle is dead on at 300 yards. Shoots a 5″ group at 300 yards with my Marlin 1895 SBL and Leupold FX-II 2.5x IER Scout Scope.”
So what was the load ?
